Trekking
‘The Peaks’
Discover the Nature of the Olympos & Ossa Mountains
Separated by the steep gorge of the Tembi valley and the Pinios
River raise the mountains of the Ossa in the south and the mighty
peaks of the Olympos mountain range towards the north from the
coastal plains of the Aegean Sea. Old Chestnut and Plantain forests
alternate with fragrant meadows covered with herbs. The jagged
peaks stand in stark contrast to the wide views of the coastal
landscape. Trekking through these magnificent mountains and experiencing
the sensation of ‘The Peaks’ is pure pleasure for the senses.
Overnight stays at the mountain refuges situated right beneath
the peaks promises an intensive mountain experience and spectacular
sunsets and sunrises.
|
The
best travel times for ‘The Peaks’ are summer and autumn. The tour
is suitable for novice and experienced hikers and can be operated
as a one week trekking tour or alternatively and more relaxed as
a 10 day trekking tour.

Crossing ‘Mount Olympos’
A mythical trekking tour to the seat of the Gods
Mount Olympos’ 3000 meter high summits are said to be saturated
by the nectar of the ancient Greek gods. It is also known as the
seat of Zeus who gathered the clouds and threw flashes and thunder
from the holy mountain. This ancient image of the holy mountain
and its uncounted natural treasures are today protected by the
Mt. Olympos National Park (since 1938) and the flanks of the mountain
known as Kato Olympos or Lower Olympos has been declared a biosphere
reserve. Trekking the mountains, experiencing the spectacular
peaks and ancient civilizations on the high mountain plateaus,
spending time to sense their power and beauty is a journey through
time and natural wonders. Over night we’ll stay in comfortable
guesthouses in small mountain villages and mountain refuges. |
Crossing
Mt. Olympos is best done during the summer and autumn month and
suitable for experienced hikers with a sense of adventure. This
mythical trekking tour can be done as a one week or optionally as
a 10 day trip. |

The Shepherd’s Trails
Trekking
in the footsteps of ancient civilization
Age old footpaths used by shepherds and mountain farmers in their
everyday life trail the flanks of Mt. Olympos and Kato Olympos also
known as Lower Olympos. The trails lead to ancient mountain
villages, chapels and monasteries and from farms to winter and summer
pastures. We leisurely follow these trails in the dry summer month
high up into the breathtaking mountains and in times of moderate
temperature to the beautiful plateaus and valleys. Trekking the
shepherd’s trails is a fascinating way of exploring an old civilization
still existing and functioning today whilst enjoying and discovering
the unspoiled natural environment it is set in, its flora and fauna
and views and smells. Every season of the year shapes life
on the mountain differently and gives the forests, meadows and rivers
a different look, smell and feeling. Following the trails
and getting insight into mountain people’s everyday life and traditions
is a very special way of discovering the beauty of the Mt. Olympos
area and its people. This hotel based trip allows for rest days
on the beaches of the Aegean Sea. |
Trekking
‘The Shepherd’s Trails’ is possible from April until November. Novice
and experienced hikers can discover mountain life and its people
during a one week tour or optionally up to 2 weeks. |
